The Whole Brain® Model is part of our cultural DNA. It’s one of our key foundational tools that we use for development of our people. We talk so much about unlocking performance through cognitive diversity, and the HBDI® is our gateway tool that opens a door for people to be able to do that. The outcomes that we’ve seen from using the HBDI and Whole Brain® Thinking is a really strong culture of self-awareness across the organisation and a common language.
For the last 15 years Swinburne University has been using HBDI® that enables teams to better understand themselves and their thinking preferences. The better we understand ourselves, the better we’re going to be able to produce innovative outcomes and collaborate with one another. It’s simple in its application but can also go much deeper the more you use it. It can change people’s lives. It can change the way people look at the world and that can only be a positive thing.
After becoming HBDI® Certified, Whole Brain® Thinking has really become a big part of my coaching and the way I communicate with the players. We did an end of season review in 2018 and I looked at the 3 key issues – defence, leadership and communication – through a Whole Brain® lens, thinking through the model for each one. As an organisation, we were in a really good place but what Whole Brain® Thinking was able to do for us was attach a couple of wires that just needed a few adjustments and the results were massive. We were able to have a big turnaround off the back of that.
We began our HBDI® journey in 2016 and wanted to focus on personal development for our teams. Using the HBDI® allowed our teams to better understand each other and really helped from a communication and interaction perspective. We’re really starting to see a lot more collaboration and working better together. It’s really allowed our team to embrace diversity of thought and as an organisation unlock the difference in thinking.
